The girls and I had one mission on this particular Friday: To register with the library and check out some books. (The four, thin paper-backs we carried onto the plane had lost their bedtime magic long ago.) Had a brief embarrassing moment when we were actually standing inside a book SHOP but thought it was the library. I went to ask about how to get a library card and the sweet lady behind the counter (who was VERY gracious and kind) informed me that this was not the library and pointed me just a few blocks down the street. To my credit, there is a sign right outside the shop that says "Library" and points down the street... I just thought it was pointing at the cute place with books in the window! (Oops.)
But once we found the right bookworm spot on the street, we really enjoyed it and the girls had fun choosing new books to check out. It's fun because the books here read in a British way and I have trouble trying to read them without practicing my accent! HA! ...But seriously, who can read a line like "One slurpy sip later, Vernon clambers up onto his favourite cushion" without trying it a little? It makes the girls look at me a little sideways, but it's fun.
But at the end of the day, it was a productive outing. We met another sweet American family with young children, made it home with a library card, got a bank account established with money deposited AND picked up a load of groceries that the girls and I shopped for ourselves while Collin was still at the bank. We all met back at the house where I already had dinner on the stove... and after dinner, Collin and the girls played in the back until sundown. Successful days like this aren't necessarily an everyday occurrence in our house, so we'll just celebrate them when they come. :)
Steph--This is such a wonderful way to keep up with you and your sweet family on their great adventure! Thank you for sharing it with us...
